In the heyday of the Clan Ross, Milton was a centre for oatmeal and later on for flax production, which fed the surrounding farms.

Sat on the southern edge of the Easter Ross Peninsula, the area sits in one of the richest agricultural districts of Scotland. A great place to spot a Red Kite.

It is home to rich woods and arable land with farms and crofts. It slopes gently from the hills of Kinrive and Strathrory in the north to the shores of the Cromarty Firth in the south; on the northeast, flows the Balnagown River.
