About SR Film Photography

Simon has a bespoke photography studio and darkroom located at the top of the picturesque Nigg Hill.

He specialises in analogue and alternative forms of photography, and the studio is dedicated to practicing the art of Victorian Wetplate Photography, invented in the 1850's the process is still to be rivalled today. There are only around one thousand people in the world that practice wet plate collodion.

He can offer half-day or full-day portraiture sessions.

The process is incredibly technical and is reputed to be the most difficult photography process to practice. He uses exactly the same methods, chemicals, and cameras as when the process was first invented. If you visit the studio for a portraiture session, you will have the opportunity to see your portrait appear within the chemicals when he develops it before your eyes in the darkroom.

Simon also runs photo-walks from the Nigg Studio where he will take you to the world War II military installations along the circular path, there are stunning views the entire way!

He became an artist in 2016, travelling through various analogue and darkroom disciplines. In 2021 Simon won a global wedding award for his natural portraiture. He also worked closely with Channel 4 on the set of SAS: Who Dares Wins. Currently his work is being exhibited throughout the Highlands & Islands.
